Where was Gustav in 2001 ?
Gustav is nearly always travelling. (To avoid the perhaps obvious thought that some people might have: his trips are not sponsored by the Alink-Argerich Foundation.)
Below, an overview of the travelling that Gustav made in 2001
In December 2001, Gustav came back from his trip to China, and went to Paris for the Marguerite Long Competition. In the Netherlands, he attended the finals of the first National Piano Competition organised by YPF (the Young Pianist Foundation).
November ... a trip to China again
in order to attend the first International Piano Competition in Shanghai.
Too much travelling ...! Most of October, Gustav stayed
at home. The extensive travelling in September was too tiring. At home, his task is to do as much work as possible to organise all gathered information and to continue the preparations for his
new book on Piano Competitions. However, the last week of October Gustav attended the first International Competition for Young Musicians in
Enschede (the Netherlands).
The second half of September, Gustav did not spend much time at home. After having visited the
Franz Liszt Competition in Budapest, he went to
Pécs (another city, more south in Hungary), and then the long trip back home commenced.
He made a stop in Vienna again, and in München and
Dortmund, before visiting another (new) international piano competition in Vresse
s/Semois (Belgium),
on September 16th! On the way back, he also stopped in Brussels
and spoke with Martha Argerich, and finally came home.
Before September was over, he attended the international piano competitions in
Dortmund (Schubert Competition) and
Köln (Cologne).
The beginning of September, Gustav was continuing the long trip which he started
in August. In order to combine as much as possible, he drove his car for
several
thousands of kilometers, which brought him to Salzburg
where he met with Alfred Brendel. After
visiting the international piano competitions in Bolzano,
Pörtschach and Senigallia,
he made a stop in Vienna (where he had a most enjoyable visit to
Paul Badura Skoda), and ended in Budapest
for the Franz Liszt
Competition. (After this, he could continue to Rumania, for the Enescu
competition, but did not do so.)
In August, Gustav travelled to the Chopin Festival in Duszniki (Poland), and to Italy and Austria, attending the international piano competitions in Bolzano (Busoni), Pörtschach (Brahms) and Senigallia.
July/August, the annual Music Festival in Verbier (Switzerland) took place. Gustav was there, among the greatest musicians of today. More about this Festival on the page "Latest News". Before returning home, Gustav paid a visit to Salzburg where he met with important piano teachers and concert pianists.
In July, Gustav travelled to the Czech Republic (Chopin Competition in Mariánske Lánske) and France (Paris).
In May and June, he was invited to the Seiler International Piano Competition in Kitzingen (Germany) and to the first Sendai International Music Competition in Japan.
Between March 27th and May 8th, he travelled round the world, visiting China, Taiwan, Japan and the United States. In Taiwan, he gave a lecture at the first Martha Argerich Festival in Taipei, and in Japan, he attended the third Martha Argerich Festival in Beppu. In the United States, he met with many pianists, teachers, and competition organisers, and he was in Washington for the General Assembly of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
The first three months of this year, he attended international piano competitions in Croatia (Osijek), Germany (Saarbrücken: Bach Competition), and France (Epinal).
